The College's dance department will host a full day of Hip-Hop on Sunday, Oct. 1 with its Mesa Dance Festival.
The day will kick off with registration at 10 a.m. in OCC's Peterson Gymnasium, followed by three separate master class dance workshops presented by talented choreographers such as Mookie Washington and Sorah Yang. A dance battle will commence at 4:30 p.m., and a performance at 7 p.m. will follow in the College's Robert B. Moore Theatre.
Proceeds from the event will go toward students dance scholarships and improving OCC's dance department. "The purpose of this event is to bring the community and OCC's dance department together to experience an entire day of hip hop activities," says dance instructor and event coordinator Jose Costas. "Also, we hope to raise funds to improve department programming and offer dance scholarships to low income students attending our program."
The cost to attend is $25 in advance and $35 at the door for all three master class workshops, dance battles and evening performance. The dance battle entrance fee can be purchased separately for $10, and the evening performance purchased separately for $12 in advance, $17 at the door. OCC Students with ID and High School students with ID are ONLY $20 for the whole event. Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.occtickets.com or by calling (714) 432-5880.
