Orange Coast College's dance department will present its annual "Studio Hour," on Tuesday, May 16, at 7 p.m. in the Robert B. Moore Theatre.
Studio Hour is an informal, upbeat program featuring students performing material learned in class during the spring semester, and takes place over a fast-paced two hours with no intermission. Students will perform classroom choreography translated to stage with costumes and lights.
"This event allows students who have never danced before an opportunity to dance on stage for the very first time," says Dance Instructor Jose Costas. "It also offers families a chance to come and support their members' achievements."
Studio Hour began more than 35 years ago as a very informal, free dance showing held in Dance Studio B. Eventually the dance department moved the event to the Robert B. Moore Theatre to accommodate a growing audience. The presentation is very popular and frequently sells out.
Dance styles on display this year include ballet, modern, jazz, hip hop, Middle Eastern, African, flamenco, and Latin.
Tickets are $6 and are available online at www.occtickets.com or at the OCC Bursar's Office at (714) 432-5880. If the event is not sold out, tickets will also be available at the door.
