In the wake of the horrific shootings in Las Vegas on Sunday, I wanted to take a moment to say that our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families. These events have become all too commonplace in our country.
I wanted to assure you that OCC continues to be proactive in Emergency Preparedness with on-going training in responding to emergencies and what to do in an active shooter situation.
We are working closely with the Costa Mesa Police Department, seminars and drills such as the National Preparedness Event in the Quad with Emergency Response agencies and Active Shooter response training previously held on campus. OCC Campus Safety also has additional information on its website including an active shooter preparedness video. It can be found at www.orangecoastcollege.edu/publicsafety
I would like to ask that our dedicated faculty and staff be thoughtful, reasonable and understanding to our students that may be affected by this tragedy, whether they are trying to return home or have loved ones that they are attempting to reach. As always, the Student Health Center is available for any assistance or grief counseling.
