This spring, Orange Coast College will offer its first noncredit English Language Learning (ELL) course uniquely designed for non-native English speaking parents/guardians of children in elementary school to help them more confidently and effectively advocate for their children’s academic success.
The course, which is currently offered for the Spring 2020 semester, will focus on building parents’ English speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills within the context of tasks related to their children’s schooling. Equally important, the course will develop participants’ cultural knowledge about requirements, expectations and programs available in the American Elementary School System in efforts to afford them greater leverage in their children’s academic success.
Parents/guardians with all English skill levels are welcome. Classes will be offered at the OCC campus and meet every Friday from 8:45-10:55 a.m. beginning January 27, 2020.
For more information, please call the Adult Education Office at (714) 432-6897 or email Marely Cervantes at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The course is part of the college’s growing efforts to increase the civic engagement of all of the members of its community.
