Twice a year, we come together as a campus community to learn from each other during our Flex Day celebrations. In August, we will reconnect after the summer break to plan for the upcoming year. As we approach the fifth month of the COVID-19 pandemic, this fall’s Fall Flex Day will look and feel different, with the annual day of professional development and training taking place online.
This year’s theme is “There’s No Place Like Home.” Ironically, this theme was selected many months ago, before the pandemic began. Originally planned as a nod to the College’s new student housing facility, the theme takes on a new meaning as OCC’s faculty, staff and students have had to adapt to working and learning from home.
As COVID-19 continues to affect our community, many of you have had to carve out a new space at home that allows you to continue the important work of keeping OCC running. Whether it’s teaching an online class, connecting students to the resources they need to meet their academic goals or helping colleagues navigate new online processes, the work you do each and every day is essential to the College’s mission of serving the educational needs of our diverse community.
I would like to ask you to share photos of your home workspace, along with 2-3 sentences about what the words “There’s No Place Like Home” mean to you today. There are no wrong answers here! Please send your photos and responses to the College’s Marketing and Public Relations department at firstname.lastname@example.org by August 4.
We want to celebrate the unique perspective of our faculty and staff, and demonstrate that even though we can’t physically be together, we are still united by our shared calling to help our students succeed.
