Always known as Mike, James Michael Finnegan was born eighty years ago in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After graduating from College of St. Thomas, Mike came west, earned a California teaching credential, and began his long career as an educator and as a lifelong learner. Earning an advanced degree at UCLA, he took a position with Coast Community College District’s Orange Coast College, where he taught English and Literature for thirty years before becoming administrator of education abroad programs for the District.
Known for his laughter, quick wit, and sense of humor, Mike had many friends, enjoying their company as much as they enjoyed his. He loved books, usually enjoying many at the same time and always, always making recommendations. As for sports, it was fishing, tennis, and Lakers basketball.
Predeceased by Anne, his wife of 40 years, Mike is survived by his son John, daughter- -in-law Ileana, grandson Willem, and brother Tom. He is missed by all, representing a true highlight in the lives of those lucky enough to have known him.
