Counseling Services

The Counseling Center is located on the third floor of Watson Hall, which may be located on the campus map.  Students may schedule an appointment, or check-in for a counseling session at the front counter of the Counseling Center.

 

Counseling services at Orange Coast College are in place to help students identify and clarify personal, career, and educational goals.  The intent is to help students explore their options and make informed decisions that will improve the quality of their lives.  Our professionally trained counselors are available to assist you with the following:

  • Educational Planning

  • Career Exploration

  • Personal Counseling

  • Counseling Classes

  • Support Groups

  • Referral Services

  • Transfer Services 

Important Information

The final week for Counseling services will be Monday, 12/9/19 through Friday, 12/13/19. The Counseling Center will be open Monday, 12/16/19 through Wednesday, 12/18/19, however, there will be no counselors available for appointments or drop-in services. The Counseling Center will close for the winter break beginning Thursday, 12/19/19. All counseling services will resume when the campus re-opens on Thursday, 01/02/2020.


Appointments


Appointments may be made in person, online, or by telephone. Each Thursday, the Counseling Center begins scheduling appointments for students at 8:00 a.m. for the following week. All appointments are thirty minutes long (unless otherwise noted), and are scheduled based on availability. Due to high student volume, we often book our appointments very quickly. Please see below for more information on the best method of scheduling an appointment. 


Coming to book an appointment in person at 8:00 a.m. on Thursdays is the best way to ensure that you speak with one of our front-desk staff members. If you are trying to book an appointment using the online scheduling systerm, please note that these appointments typically book up very quickly. If you are trying to schedule an appointment by calling our front-desk appointment line, please note that our system will connect you with a staff member in the order in which you enter the calling queue. Due to the high volume of callers, some callers may experience wait times anywhere between thirty minutes to one hour.


To schedule an appointment, you may click the "Make An Appointment" page from the menu on the left, call (714) 432-5078, or come in person during our office hours. 


If you need to cancel an appointment, please contact our office immediately. You may cancel via phone (714) 432-5078, through your text message reminder, or in person. Please DO NOT cancel an appointment via e-mail.  

 

Drop-In Counseling

Drop-In Counseling is limited to ten minutes and is appropriate for general questions only. Drop-In Counseling is generally available on Monday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.  Students must check in for a drop-in appointment at the Counseling Services front desk on the third floor of Watson hall. All students are served on a first-come, first-served basis. Drop-In Counseling is not appropriate for transcript evaluation, Student Education Plans or personal counseling, as drop-in Counselors do not have access to your transcript or other student records.
