Congratulations on your acceptance to Orange Coast College! We look forward to welcoming you here soon. It is extremely important that you read and follow each step in the Post Acceptance Checklist to prepare for your arrival to OCC. If you have any questions, contact us at email@example.com
Activate your MyOCC
You should have received an acceptance email with your log in details, including a temporary password to activate your MyOCC account. MyOCC is your online portal to register for classes, pay for your tuition and fees, and view your class grades and progress towards your degree completion. We highly recommend that you begin to use your OCC email as your primary email as soon as you have activated it.
Enroll in Health Insurance
It is mandatory that all international students purchase Health Insurance through our provider Ascension. Choose Orange Coast College and the current year from the drop-down menu.
You must purchase health insurance FIRST before you can register for any classes. At this time, OCC does not accept any other insurance plans except if you are Government Sponsored student and your medical coverage is verified on your financial guarantee.
Take the Assessment Exam
All incoming students are required to take the assessment exam for Math and English. You should take the exam as soon as possible. The exam will evaluate your competencies to determine an appropriate level of course placement in these subjects. Sample questions are available to help you prepare. The exams are a minimum of 3 hours in length. Request an appointment slip at the Global Engagement Center before heading to the Assessment Center to test.
If your previous school is in the local area, it is highly recommended you take the assessment exams and attend a counseling appointment as soon as possible.
Register for Classes
Register for classes as soon as registration begins (Spring registration will begin on November 1) using the MyOCC login information you have received by e-mail.
Review the MyOCC reference guide for information on how to register. Review the Course Selection Guide to obtain recommendations for the courses that international students should take in their first term (students should typically enroll in mostly general courses to start).
F-1 Students must enroll in and complete 12 units each semester to maintain status. Waitlisted classes do NOT count as enrollment. Classes fill up quickly, so it is advised that you register early.
*You must to take the Assessment Exam before you can register for Math and English courses.
Pay for Tuition and Fees
After registering for classes on your MyOCC portal, you will be prompted to pay for tuition and fees online. You should pay your tuition and fees within 48 hours of enrollment to avoid being dropped from any classes.
There are several options to pay for your tuition and fees.
- Online on your MyOCC with Visa or MasterCard
- By cash or personal check to the OCC Bursar's Office
- Wire funds from a bank account in your home country through Flywire by PeerTransfer – make sure to include your OCC Student ID number with your payment so we can apply your payment to your account correctly. Failure to include ID, may delay payment application. You should also email firstname.lastname@example.org to notify you have made a wire payment.
Meet with Your Academic Counselor
After you take the assessment exam, you may schedule an appointment to meet with an academic counselor to discuss your course selection and academic plan.
Individual counseling sessions are available only for students who have previously attended a college or university. If you are a first time college student, you will receive an email to sign up for group counseling. If you have attended college in the past, visit the Global Engagement Center to sign up for a counseling appointment.
Transfer your SEVIS Record
Your previous or current school must release your SEVIS record to OCC at your request. Submit a copy of your OCC acceptance letter to your current school and ask them to transfer your SEVIS record to OCC when the session ends. Your SEVIS record must be transferred to OCC within the 60-day grace period (counted from the last day you attend your old school). Please do not delay. OCC's SEVIS code is: LOS 214F 0118 6000. We are listed in SEVIS under Coast Community College District and then as Orange Coast College.
All incoming international students are required to attend orientation on January 23, 2018 from 8:30 AM. Attendance is REQUIRED and arriving late or leaving early will be considered an absence. If you miss orientation or arrive late/leave early, you will be unable to register for classes for future semesters.
Please check your OCC email regularly for the Eventbrite invitation to register for orientation.
Join the Admitted Student Facebook Group
If you have a Facebook profile, join the admitted student Facebook group. You received an invitation to join and a link to the group in your acceptance email. This is a great way to connect with fellow incoming students before your arrival.
Orange Coast College does not offer on-campus housing or a housing department and students are responsible for their living arrangements. We have provided good resources and options such apartment communities and homestay within our local area. Visit the housing and homestay webpage for more information.
Traveling before the Start of Classes
If you wish to travel outside the U.S. before classes begin at OCC, submit the travel form. You must have an OCC's I-20 to re-enter the U.S. If you are not traveling, I-20's will be issued after classes begin.
You should plan to return to the U.S. by the start date on your I-20, January 16 and you should NOT plan to travel between January 16 and the start of class on January 29 as you will need to be in the local area to get ready to start at OCC.
If you are already outside of the U.S., you must create an E-Ship Global account and pay for shipment to ensure you can receive your I-20 document by mail abroad. The documents should arrive within 3-5 business days. We will not use regular mail to send documents to non-U.S. addresses.
