Pirates' Promise Program

Orange Coast College is committed to the success of its students and wants to help them accelerate their education in order to start their career or transfer sooner. The Pirates' Promise Program provides eligible students free tuition for a year (Fall - Spring semesters).

Eligibility Criteria

Students who meet all of the following criteria will be eligible to receive free tuition (until program capacity is reached) for the Fall and Spring semesters:

  • First-time college student: Has not attended OCC or any other institution as a college student;

  • California resident: Must satisfy California residency requirements; 

  • 15-unit enrollment: Enroll in 15 or more units at OCC*;

  • Apply for financial aid: Complete one of the following applications. Please note, this program will cover your tuition if you do NOT qualify for the California Promise Grant (formerly known as BOG):

 * As of the Fall semester, participating students from the following school districts will only be required to enroll in a minimum of 12 units to be considered for the Pirates' Promise Program.

  • Garden Grove Unified School District
  • Huntington Beach Union High School District
  • Newport-Mesa Unified School District

Program Requirements:

Eligible students whose application has been processed and confirmed must maintain the following requirements in order to continue to receive Spring uition:

  • Complete a comprehensive educational plan by the end of the Fall semester
  • Maintain 15-units of enrollment*
  • Achieve a minimum of 2.0 GPA and be in good standing
