Information for Faculty

The Student Success Center(SSC) is a centralized tutorial center with several areas.  A variety of services, programs and software are offered free of charge to OCC students.  Students must be enrolled in the classes at OCC for which they want tutoring and they
must register with the SSC once a semester.

Tutoring Areas

Math Area-The Math Area provides tutoring for most math classes including a separate study room for statistics.  Students can sit in the homework area and get help from tutors and/or attend study groups.  Weekly appointments are available for students in Math 05, 08, 010, 030, 045.  Individual appointments are scheduled at the front desk.

Writing & Reading Area-Students working on a writing or reading-related assignment for any OCC class may come to meet with a tutor for a drop-in session.  Students may see a tutor for a 30-minute session once per day. Study groups, ESL conversation groups, and workshops are also offered.  The Writing & Reading area is located in C&L 101.

General Area-Students can receive drop-in tutoring for a variety of courses in the Business, Science, and Social & Behavioral Science divisions, as well as World Languages and other departments.


Classroom Presentations-A representative of the student success center is available to give a short 5 minute class presentation about the SSC and the services we offer any time during the semester.  Contact Jaki Kamphuis to schedule a classroom presentation.

Study Groups and Review Sessions––Group tutoring is scheduled based on student demand.  Instructors can request a study group or review session by contacting Jaki Kamphuis at Groups are scheduled to meet with a tutor once a week. Review sessions can be scheduled before tests. Students may also request a study group by coming to the SSC or visiting the Virtual Front Desk (located on our TUTR A050N Canvas homepage) and starting a sign-up sheet.

Study Skills Workshops-Weekly study skills workshops are offered every semester.  A different topic is covered each week.  The schedule is posted on the Student Success Center section of this website.  Extra credit slips are available to students at each workshop.  Questions can be directed to Susan Aube.

Writing Center Workshops-A variety of workshops are offered throughout the semester.  Current workshops are posted on this website.
