Student Assistant Employment Opportunity

Program Description

Student employment provides an opportunity to earn money and continue your education, to train with people who manage the day-to-day business of the institution you attend, and to combine your academic study with on-the-job experience.  Job opportunities under this program offer you temporary employment with the Coast Community College District.  Employment can range from summer jobs to positions that last as long as you are a student.  These employment opportunities can be related to your academic field of study, but do not need to be.

 

Program Requirements

In order to qualify, you must be:

  1. A student enrolled in a minimum of 12 units during the Fall and/or Spring semester – must have 12 units in Spring to work during the summer and 12 units in Fall to work during intercession
  2. Must complete an online employment application
    • Include any employment or volunteer history you have
    • Class schedule showing 12 units of enrollment must be attached to the application
  3. Completion of FAFSA application (international students excluded from this requirement)

Federal Work-Study Student Assistant Employment Opportunity

Program Description

Federal Work-Study, also referred to as FWS, is one of the three major federal student aid programs from the U.S. Department of Education.  It is designed to provide part-time employment to students who have established significant financial need according to federal guidelines.  The federal government pays a percentage of the student's salary; the school pays the remainder.  FWS is part of the total financial aid package and is not intended to be the sole source of assistance.  Many students either seek a position related to their career objective or seek positions that offer skill development.  In either case, the FWS Program is intended to provide a balance between the interests of the student and the needs of the department.

 

Program Requirements

In order to qualify, you must:

  1. Completion of FAFSA application
  2. You MUST be awarded federal work-study
  3. You MUST accept your federal work-study award upon receiving
  4. Must complete an online employment application
    • Include any employment or volunteer history you have
    • Federal Work-Study Award Letter confirming you have been awarded.
    • Class schedule must be attached to the application

CalWORKS Student Assistant Employment Opportunity

Program Description

The CalWORKs Program at OCC serves and supports parenting students who are receiving county-of-residence CalWORKs benefits (cash aid/public cash assistance/welfare) for themselves and their dependent children living in the household. The intent of the CalWORKs college work study component is to assist parenting students gain valuable work experience, support the costs of postsecondary education, and is an allowable activity for county Welfare-to-Work participation requirements. Student-parents may have the opportunity to work in a variety of campus departments, and if possible, in an area related to their academic and career goals.   

 

Program Requirements

In order to qualify, you must be:

  1. A CalWORKs student-parent, enrolled in the Orange Coast College CalWORKs Program
  2. Maintain positive enrollment in a minimum of six (6) units each primary semester (Fall and Spring)
  3. Meet satisfactory academic standing and progress
  4. Must complete an online employment application
    • Include any employment or volunteer history you have
    • Class schedule showing a minimum of 6 units of enrollment must be attached to the application
  5. Completion of FAFSA application (international students excluded from this requirement)

LAEP Student Intern Employment Opportunity

Program Description

Students enrolled in an identified LAEP (Learning-Aligned Employment Program) program of study at Coastline College, Golden West College, and Orange Coast College may participate in a related internship. To qualify for a LAEP internship, students need to meet financial aid needs and other specific student eligibility requirements. LAEP Student Interns perform program-specific technical, analytical, and research functions of assigned work projects, reports, and other career-related assignments; assignments provide work experience and training in a related career program. A student shall only be placed in an educationally beneficial position that relates to the student’s area of study, career objective, or the exploration of career objectives. 

The Learning-Aligned Employment Program (LAEP) offers eligible underrepresented students at public colleges and universities the opportunity to earn money to help defray their educational costs while gaining education-aligned, career-related employment.

  • Promotes equity
  • Better aligns higher education with workforce needs
  • Bridges the gap between college and career
