Mass Appeal 2018 Student Exhibition Opens at Doyle Arts Pavilion May 3

Student talent from across the campus will be on display for two weeks in Orange Coast College's "Mass Appeal 2018 Student Exhibition" at the Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion from May 3–17. "Mass Appeal 2018 Student Exhibition" showcases various artistic media, including painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, and fashion. A public reception will take place on Thursday, May 3, 5–7 p.m. with awards announced during this time. Admission for the event is free and includes pizza and dessert.

"The uniqueness of 'Mass Appeal' is that it's open to the entire Orange Coast College campus, not just to students majoring in art. It's a very democratic process that also represents the abundance of artistic inspiration among OCC's students," says Tyler Stallings, director of the Doyle Arts Pavilion.

The exhibition also is part of the College's celebration of its 70th Anniversary that will include special events, community outreach, and the re-dedication of some of the campus's most iconic buildings.

Orange Coast Junior College was founded in 1947, with classes on campus beginning in 1948. The school's 164-acre campus once served as the Santa Ana Army Air Base, and classes, dormitories and administration offices originally were housed in army barracks.

Today, OCC boasts several state-of-the-art facilities, including a recently opened LEED certified Recycling Center, a Math, Business and Computing Center, and a new Library and Art Center.

The Frank M. Doyle Arts Pavilion focuses on contemporary visual culture and creates dynamic programming that inspires interaction and dialogue between artists, students, scholars, and local and international communities. Designed by architect Steven Ehrlich the Arts Pavilion features a Main Gallery and Project Gallery.

Admission is free. Hours for "Mass Appeal 2018 Student Exhibition" are Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., with additional evening hours on Thursday from 11a.m. until 7 p.m.

The Arts Pavilion is located next to OCC's Parking Lot D9, off Merrimac Way, between Starbucks and the Art Center classroom building. A map of Orange Coast College is available at
