Frequently Asked Questions

  • Step 7: Once you schedule your appointment, Accudemia will send an email to your student email address with a link to your Zoom meeting. You can access this link up to 5 minutes before and 5 minutes after your scheduled appointment start time. 

  • Step 8: If you encounter any problems, use our Canvas homepage to access our Virtual Front Desk, or email us at successcenter@occ.cccd.edu.


  • How do I schedule a session with a tutor?

    • Once you’ve registered for TUTR 050N, you can either

  1. Log in to our Canvas TUTR 050N homepage, click the blue “Make an Appointment” button, and use Accudemia to schedule a Zoom appointment with a tutor

OR

  1. Visit the Student Success Center on campus (C&L building, room 103) on Mondays and Tuesdays from 10 AM to 4 PM for drop-in tutoring. The Writing & Reading Area also offers in-person drop-in tutoring on Wednesdays from 10 AM to 4 PM.

  • How do I access the TUTR 050N Canvas homepage?

    • Once you register for TUTR 050N, you can access our Canvas shell through your myOCC page, under the “OCC Home” tab. From your myOCC page, click the Canvas link, where you will be directed to sign in using your student ID number and myOCC password. Once you’re logged into Canvas, you will see the TUTR 050N shell under the “Dashboard” and “Courses” tabs on the left-hand side of your Canvas page.



  • What do I do if I can’t find an available appointment through Accudemia?

    • This may be because all of our appointments for that day or week are booked. If that is the case, you may have to wait until the following week to make an appointment. However, we recommend you visit the Virtual Front Desk (located on the TUTR 050N Canvas homepage) to double check our availability.  


  • Who do I contact if I have a problem?

    • If you have a problem connecting with your tutor for a scheduled appointment, contact the Virtual Front Desk (link located on the TUTR 050N Canvas homepage). 


  • If you are having issues with Accudemia, contact the Virtual Front Desk (link located on the TUTR 050N Canvas homepage) or email successcenter@occ.cccd.edu.


  • If you have a concern or complaint regarding a tutor or staff member, contact Jaki Kamphuis, the Student Success Center Coordinator, at jkamphuis@occ.cccd.edu.


  • How long are tutoring appointments?

    • Students who wish to receive help from a math or all-other-subjects tutor have the option to request a 25-minute or a 50-minute appointment. 

    • Students who wish to receive help from a writing tutor may schedule a 25-minute appointment or drop into the Virtual Front Desk to work on a Directed Learning Activity, which can take anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour. 

    • If you schedule an appointment but do not need the full 25 or 50 minutes, you may sign out of an appointment early, but students may not exceed their appointment time. 


  • What do I need to bring with me to my tutoring session?

    • For all appointments, come with the material you’d like to work on, for example, your course syllabus, required textbook, class notes, assigned readings, assignment prompts, and materials to take notes with.
