Program Requirements

Students who are part of the Pirates' Promise cohort can receive tuition assistance for up to 2 years (primary semesters - fall and spring - only) at OCC. Students in the Pirates' Promise cohort must meet and complete the program requirements to secure their tuition assistance. Students who do not meet the requirements may be ineligible to receive tuition assistance. 

Remember: students need to complete the sign-up requirements by the program deadline in order to be part of the Pirates' Promise cohort. Check out the sign-up requirements page for more information. 

Year 1 Requirements

Prior to the Semester

  • Complete the Pirates' Promise Workshop (on Canvas) prior to the the fall semester
  • Attend Summer Bridge Session and Navigate OCC

During the Semester

  • Enroll in and maintain full-time enrollment (minimum of 12 units) for the fall and spring semesters at OCC. Students with an approved accommodation plan on file with the Accessibility Resource Center (ARC) to take a reduced course load meet this requirement. 
  • Complete the fall semester in good standing with OCC and earn a minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Complete a Student Education Plan (SEP) with an academic counselor

Year 2 Requirements

  • Submit a FAFSA or CA Dream Act: you need to submit a FAFSA or CA Dream Act each year
  • Enroll in and maintain full-time enrollment (minimum of 12 units) for the fall and spring semesters at OCC. Students with an approved accommodation plan on file with the Accessibility Resource Center (ARC) to take a reduced course load meet this requirement. 
  • Maintain good academic standing and earn a 2.0 cumulative GPA
  • Meet with an OCC counselor to update your educational plan
